Ground number 30. I had always wanted to visit Woking’s Kingsfield Stadium, it being a simple journey, on paper at least - from Ipswich. Through the luck of the draw and Hayes & Yeading ground sharing for the season, now was my chance.

I travelled by train and left at 11:09, arriving at Liverpool Street about 70 minutes later. After a quick journey on the underground via Bank, I left Waterloo at 12:45 and reached Woking around twenty five minutes later. Finding the ground was straightforward - a fifteen minute walk from the railway station and I arrived at the Kingsfield Stadium at around 13:25. Next to the away terrace is a Snooker Club for which away fans are welcome, and had a pint along with several others who had made the journey before entering the ground.

First impressions of the ground were fair - like some of the other Non-League grounds I had visited, the Kingsfield Stadium has one all seater stand (the Leslie Gosden stand) which would not look out of place in Leagues One or Two. This is situated behind the goal to the left of the Tennis Club Terrace, where we were allowed to move to and from; the Hayes fans were afforded the opposite end, a small covered terrace and a Main Stand (facing the Tennis Club Terrace) which comprised of small covered seated stands and an uncovered terrace.

I sat in the Leslie Gosden stand in the first half and found the view impressive. The official attendance was given as 452, but there were at least 400 United fans there, and around 150 supporting Hayes.

The game was very enjoyable; despite going a goal down midway through the first half we went into the break 2-1 up and ended up running out 6-2 winners.

Getting away from the ground was straight forward, I got back to Woking station just in time to catch the 17:12 train to Waterloo, and after a quick run across Waterloo station and onto the Waterloo & City line tube back to Bank, I changed there for the Central line and arrived at Liverpool Street with about three minutes to spare to catch the 18:00 service to Ipswich.

We are away to Hayes again in April in the league and I hope to travel to Woking again. I didn’t encounter any problems travelling to and from the ground, and would recommend the trip as a relaxing day out.
